Welcome to DerekWeaver.com. In this video we will demonstrate the calibration procedure for the W-977 Wheel Balancer.
To properly calibrate the machine you will need a 14, 15 or 16-inch tire and steel wheel assembly in good condition. Do not use a badly worn tire or a damaged wheel for the calibration procedure.
We'll begin the calibration procedure by mounting the wheel. Choose the proper size cone and verify the cone fits the ID of the wheel. Place your cone on the shaft. Now place the wheel on the shaft. You'll notice there's a lip on the cone to hold the wheel in place. Place your quick nut on the shaft and tighten until the quick nut is snug.
Prior to entering the wheel dimensions on the W-977 you must benchmark the distance gauge. Benchmark the distance gauge by pressing and holding the People key. The machine will beep twice and say ADD/WEI. Push the People key again and it will say DIS/RL1. Hit the DIS plus button and it will say CAL and RUL. Hit the House key. Ensure the distance gauge is in the home position as seen here. Press the House key to confirm the distance gauge is in the home position. It will show DIA/RL1/14.
Pull the distance gauge out and place it against the bead of the wheel and hold it in that position. While holding the distance gauge against the bead of the wheel, use the DIA plus or minus button to enter the actual diameter of the mounted wheel in this window. This wheel is a 15-inch wheel. Once the entry is complete, hit the House button. The machine will beep three times and that confirms that the diameter benchmark has been set.
Now we'll enter the dimensions for the wheel. Pull the distance gauge from the home position and place it against the bead of the wheel. Because the W-977 is an auto-entry machine, when the distance gauge is returned to the home position the distance and the diameter will auto-populate.
Use the distance gauge to obtain your wheel width by placing the pointers on the distance gauge on the bead of the wheel. Note the dimension is 5 inches. Enter your width dimension using the BRE plus or BRE minus key. Change the width dimension here to 5.
Enter the calibration mode by pressing and holding the People key for six seconds. The machine will beep three times. It will say ADD in the inner window and 0.00 in the outer window. Begin the first spin cycle of the calibration by shutting the hood. The machine will spin and it will say GO in the inner window and CAL in the outer window. When the spin cycle is complete the machine will brake and then it will show ADD in the inner window and 3.5 in the outer window.
Raise the hood and now we'll place the calibration weight. To place your weight, rotate the wheel until the seven LED lights to the left of the outer window are lit. Press the foot brake to maintain that position. Now hammer the test weight to the 12:00 position on the wheel.
Close the hood to begin the final spin cycle of the calibration. The machine will say GO/CAL in the outer window and then it will beep three times, indicating the calibration procedure is complete.
